Side A of scum is Nicholas (later went on to scorn) Justin broadrick (went to Godflesh) and mick Harris
Side B is lee Dorrian, bill steer, mick Harris and Jim Whiteley (went on to doom and was in ripcord).
So yeah they're basically two separate bands only sharing one member
Also Mick Harris the early drummer is not to be confused with Mitch Harris the current guitarist although they also had a project together
Dawg is very angry right now.
Bark bark
@@Questformetal Brah brah tier.
Dawg's angry anyway
POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSER POSER CANOE!!! (Sarcasm intensifies)
I don't know about Scum being worst for Napalm Death. I like Side A alot. Side B isn't that memorable though. Side A and B are different sessions with a different a lineup recorded about a year apart. Only Mick Harris is on both sessions. Thats why they sound different. Lee Dorrian sounds different from Nik's vocals plus Bill Steer sounds way different from Justin Broadricks guitar because of the noticeable drop tune that i think people didn't like along with the more shorter songs on side b. The best thing they ever did with Lee Dorrian and Bill Steer was the BBC Peel Sessions.
New American Gospel is definitely not LOGs worst. I guess you had to be there to understand.
Summoning's discography is so stacked even their worst album is an 8/10
I’m surprised Ministry’s debut “With Sympathy” wasn’t included, it infamously sounds nothing like their established sound due to the label controlling the musical directly with Al Jourgenson getting little to no creative input, which resulted in him disowning the record for decades
I think it’s better than most of what came after it tbh
@ it caters to a different audience than what came after, so it makes sense that fans of it like yourself wouldn’t be into their subsequent work. I don’t think it’s a bad album (though Al thinks so) just it’s the least representative of what eventually became their sound
@ProfaneCreation02 have you seen the cover band With Sympathy? They exclusively play songs from that era. Al Jourgenson saw them a year or 2 ago and it slightly softened his stance on the record, now he’s been playing revenge live again and is planning on re-recording some with Sympathy tracks in the future
with sympathy is miles ahead of gay shit like amerikkkcant
Reek of putrifaction is unlistenable
Great video! Here's my list:
Kamelot - Eternity
August Burns Red - Thrill Seeker
Neurosis - Pain of Mind
Pestilence - Malleus Maleficarum (if not including the Levels of Perception re-recording album)
And I agree about Contradictions Collapse being the album where Meshuggah didn't find their sound yet
Malleus Maleficarum is better than anything post Spheres but the bar is in double hell
Agree a 100% on Carcass and Meshuggah !
Meshuggah's 1st isn't quite there yet. Destroy Erase Improve is where they really got going.
Ha. Wrote that before I'd seen the whole vid.
I'm with you on this early grind stuff. It's just not very good. These bands were working things out, I'm a huge Carcass fan. Im so glad they abandoned that sound
Lustre's Night Spirit.
Is a nice ambient black metal, but when he released Welcome Winter, it's already a huge step up, and with A Glimpse of Glory and Wonder he just kinda killed his first albums and became what we know of modern Lustre. He still releases EP and LP and they keep getting more amazing and different. Each one of them catchy and good to listen. But Like with Summoning something gonna come last and debut is gonna do it. BC You cannot compare his other works to 2 20-minute song with one rusty riff and just two synth melodies. Just can't.
Neurosis - Pain of Mind
It's basically nothing like their later material
When you said Scum and Reek Of Putrifaction are Napalm’s/Carcass’ worst album, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach 😢
Yeah, bet he wouldn’t dare say that to our faces… Oh, wait!!
😵💥🥊🤨
Probably an ulcer go see a doctor he might be able to prescribe something for it and for your lack of taste too 😉 necroticism/harmony > the rest yep yep that’s right quest for wimps is right once again
Fair list. I would like to add Blind Guardian to the list.
I would agree with Judas Priest "Rocka Rolla" if it weren't for "Demolition" which was a festering turd of an album.
Anyway, good stuff!
Yeah that priest album was so bad I forgot all about it when making this video haha
@Questformetal I would have forgotten it as well, but Jugulator ,and the live follow up, gave me hope. Demolition is one of my all-time "Kick to the balls" albums.
1st Summoning album is amazing! Completely agree about Priests 1st
When is album vs album coming out?
I definitely agree with most of these, but I've always loved Scum. My least favorite Napalm Death album would have to be Diatribes, I've always found that album to be boring. Some bands I would say that their debut is their worst would be: Dark Angel, Cannibal Corpse, KMFDM, White Zombie, Stratovarius, Dimmu Borgir.
Scum is more like a compilation than album
I think more people agree about Scum than they care to admit. Same with Carcass and a few others. I genuinely think they think it's the cool thing to say. Napalm and Carcass have even admitted themselves it's their worst work. Jeff Walker even said it to J-Dawg, and he tried to tell him he was bang wrong, haha. He's such a tit. I enjoy both debuts, and I fully understand the impact they had and how influential they are, but both have way better.
carcass’s worst is obviously torn arteries ☠️
@FACEL1FT nah, brah brah. Torn Arteries fucks. It fucks hard.
@@FACEL1FTI’d say Swansong
I feel like with most metalcore bands, their debuts are usually the weakest. With that said, I’d say Trivium with Ember to Inferno falls in this category. Still a good album.
Interesting to see Rocka Rolla on this list. I like the album, but not one of Priest’s best.
I wouldn't call Rocka Rolla my favorite Judas Priest album, but I also have gone back to it more times than I did for Demolition, and that 2024 remix for Rocka Rolla was interesting.
I actually completely forgot demolition even existed oof videos wrong already haha
Rocka Rolla title track is great. But agreed on the rest of it.
I get it - you don't like grind. .😂
But seriously I agree with you on this list (mostly). Disagree with you on Helloween. We can also add shadows Fall, In Flames and Arch enemy. Props for mentioning Symphony X.
In flames? Bro, their last 4 albums are hella stinky
Two that spring to mind are Devastation - Violent Termination and Ulcerate - Of Fracture amd Failure.
Devastation's album is just bland, uninspired thrash, but then Signs of Life is absolutely banging, but Idolatry is one of my favorite thrash albums of all time.
Ulcerate.. I don't know. Of Fracture and Failure just never clicked with me, but then they release Everything is Fire and they become one od my all-time favorite artists, and just somehow keep getting better with every release. Something I could never have imagine had I only heard their debut.
Some others.. uhh.. maybe Infernal Battles by Deathspell Omega is pretty basic, and they get way more interesting on Inquisitors of Satan before becoming one of the most mindblowing BM acts of all time. I still like Infernal Battles though, it's just not on the same level as the rest.
And about Judas Priest, I actually prefer Rocka Rolla over Nostradamus, Ram it Down and Demolition. I think One for the Road, Never Satisfied, and especially Run of the Mill are pretty good songs. The Winter/Deep Freeze/ Winter Retreat would be up there if it wasn't for that experimental noisy section in the middle, but the rest of the song is pretty awesome if you ask me.
When I want to hear the goregrind era of Carcass I reach for Symphonies. When i want to hear the grindcore era of Napalm Death I reach for FETO.
Esoteric, Last Days of Humanity, Judas Iscariot
Also I never would've guessed that you're from Liverpool lol
Do you think Rocka Rolla is worse than Jugulator and Demolition?
Absolutely not.
Carcass Peels Sessions is classic though. Essential listening.
Have you done a Djevel ranking? If no, now seems like a good time. RIP Trånn
The main guy from Djevel died in the last 24h unfortunately. RIP
Do you think you'd ever do a video on vothana?
small correction . to serve man is cattle decaps third album according to the band themselves. human jerky is their first and since it's just straight up grindcore something tells me you won't love it either .
When I first got into the band homovore was considered their first album and human jerky an ep, but now homovore was rebranded as an ep too
Questy, you didn't mention Run of the mill by Judas Priest. I find that an amazing song. This one is sooo underrated.
To Serve man is not their first album? It's their 3rd.
I'm a thrash freak but Carcass was one of my favorites but the first one was a disaster
Within Temptation
I’m gonna get a lot if hate for this…but Iron Maiden’s debut is my least favorite Maiden album
Dream Theater
In Flames
Dark Tranquillity
Epica
Powerwolf
Nightwish
As I Lay Dying
Asking Alexandria
Symphony X
Judas Priest
Rammstein
Escape The Fate
At The Gates
Amorphis
Arch Enemy
Oh d@mn. Within Temptation's Enter is one of their best. Sure, it's very reminiscent of Paradise Lost, but it's very well done.
Scum was the first Napalm Death album I purchased. I was hoping for greatness from the name but that blur of vomit grind, while fun if you are into that sort of thing; was terrible to my ears.
Why you didn’t review the new Dream Theater album?
J Dawg will be HUFFIN AND PUFFIN! " YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR GORE, BRAH BRAH!"
Best get my umbrella out it’ll be slobbering time
Nile is one of my favorite bands ever, and Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka is by far their worst.
Swansong is easier to enjoy than the Carcass debut. I don't like crapping on grindcore either but it's the genre I like the least. The Hollow and Pig Destroyer are cool. And F*ck the facts, Brutal Truth... so maybe I don't hate all of it but it's the most same same sounding.
This video is like a microcosm of developments in metal circa 2025. Scum is getting downgraded from the previous generations ultra reverence and people apparently listen to Summoning now.
Great video. My list is: Pantera, Holy Moses, Skeletonwitch, Nightwish, Inquisition, Powerwolf, Blind Guardian and Impaled Nazarene
Up untill 2020, I would've seconded Nightwish, but then they released the only album of theirs that gave me buyer's remorse. I haven't bought their latest album because I don't want to experience that feeling again.
Skeletonwitch is tough for me because I think the Adam Clemans album sucks as well, but their debut is super weak and unpolished compared to their later stuff (and not in a cool War and Pain way) and it isn't even on spotify. The re-recordings on Beyond are way better. That run of 4 from Beyond to Serpents is pristine and the rest I can leave.
Sepultura is definitely there for me
I understand disliking the first napalm death one I prefer most after it enemy of the music business is their best to me but honestly I’ve enjoyed every single record they’ve put out
Can’t say it’s bad just not for me but yeah I like almost all the other ones
Questie you definitely forgot Tool, I mean I love Undertow and consider it a great album, but it just can't keep up with the rest of the discography.
It's better than Fear Inoculum overall tbh, though the best couple tracks on it probably surpass the vast majority of Undertow.
And better than 10k Days imo
Wasn’t Opiate their first?
@@Machovelli EP, not an album
Undertow is still better than 10000 Days and way better than that Fear Inoculum snoozefest. The only thing I don't like on Undertow is the sterile production. But the tunes are great.
Some of my opinions:
Dimmu Borgir - For All Tid. The vocals aren't great with Silenoz at the mic.
Children Of Bodom - Something Wild. Still developing their song writing.
Anaal Nathrakh - The Codex Necro. It's their "least good" album.
BTBAM, Deftones, The Faceless, Cattle Decap
Behemoth - Sventevith
Dying Fetus - Purification Through Violence
Black metal behemoth way better than whatever tf they’re doing rn from the pagan vasltands is a good example of that
@@rambone8808 I vastly prefer Grom to Sventevith though. I prefer the song structures.
Bro doesn't like 'You Suffer'
DT's new album is such a banger, looking forward to your Review, Sir! 🫡
To Serve Man was not the debut my guy lol.
Dark Tranquillity's skydancer
Carcass's reek
As i lay dying's beneath the encasing of ashes
Bolt Thrower,Tool,Nile
Agreed. Amongst the catacombs is good but the songwriting is way more mature on any of their other records
Amongst the catacombs is literally the best Nile album tf, zero bullshit and pure death metal all the way through
Among the Catacombs is actually my favorite lmao. Songwriting is more simplistic but later Nile is just a bit too technical for my taste
How can you say Amongst the Catacombs is the worst when At the Gates of Sethu exists?
@martianhermit because sethu is mad underrated and has some of the best Nile songs on it
Great Vid questy! My picks: (doesnt mean they are bad, just the weakest by the band imo)
3 Inches Of Blood
Saxon
Aara
Akhlys
Bolt Thrower
Cannibal Corpse
Liege Lord
Pantera
TOOL
Transatlantic
Questy's first album was a rough listen: it's all uninspired wankery (not the guitar type) 😂
Think you mean just atmosloppy seconds
Motorhead doesn't have a bad album but their least best of is their first
For me it's Alice In Chains with Facelift, their debut is their worst album - but it's still bloody fantastic.
Strong catalogue even including their more recent stuff.
Many will say Carcass' debut - but for me it's my favourite, I absolutely LOVE the sound of it!
Carcass themselves ranked their first album as their worst
I'd agree. It's definitely by far my least favorite album from the original lineup.
scums second half is almost a completely different band lol, thought you'd know this
Pantera (I love Pantera and they're one of my all time favorites but the debut was pretty shaky. I Am The Night was my least favorite project from them for a while but I can see why the debut is ranked lower most of the time)
Rivers of Nihil (still very good as a debut, but they definitely grew as they went on)
System of a Down (debatable, they don't have a bad album in my opinion)
For me, it's White Zombie. That first album for me is just awful.
Scorpions.
in my opinion death with scream bloody gore
Spiritual Healing and everything after is way worse than SBG
@@BlasphemousVerses what? its better in every possible way than sbg
@ It's better at sucking.
Technically Lamb of God’s first album is the self titled under their original name Burn the Priest, which sounded similar to New American Gospel. While you probably dislike it for being different from their established groove style I’ve seen many fans proclaim those two records as their best work and that lamb of God got soft and mainstream after
Judas Preist immediately came to mind when I read the title
Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi
Winterfylleth - Ghost of Heritage
Persefone - Truth inside the Shades
Obscura - Retribution
Dream Theater - When Dream and Day Unite
Dark Tranquility - Skydancer
Vikingligr Veldi...what??? That's one of the greatest BM albums from that era 😂
@13g33l-w1b I'm no big fan of traditional BM. So VV and Frost are my least favourites. But I admit they are good for their style, it's just not my cup of tea. I love everything after that.
Bring Me The Horizon should be on here
Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise
Primordial - Imrama
Fates Warning's Night On Brocken is just a bunch of crappy Maiden ripoffs. Their later albums were much better.
Out of early Metallica, Kill 'em All.
Judas Priest is the first one that came to mind, though.
Nightwish, too. Angels Fall First was just kind of boring tbh.
And I couldn't finish Opeth's first album.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I can't think Kill em all being the weakest of their discography, later albums are quite horrible tbh. Kill em all contains bangers like Motorbreath, Phantom Lord, Metal militia, Hit the lights, etc.
Opeth first album Orchid is also pretty solid, considering Mikael was only 19 when he wrote it. In my opinion this album was far better than Sorceress and In cauda venenum, probably even more than Pale communion as well. Tracks like In mist she was standing, Forest of October, and The twilight is my robe are always a delight to listen.
I'm going to agree that Orchid by Opeth is for me their worst album. I realize most of the death metal fans might choose Heritage or Sorceress as their worst, but I like those prog rock / non-metal albums that Opeth released in the 2010s.
@@bobsala7780 Opeth has such a complex discography, it is quite difficult even to rank it, I mean it always comes down to personal opinions and everyone has very different views. Personally I quite enjoy their late progressive style as I come from a prog rock background, so for me Pale Communion and Heritage are great albums, even "transition" album Watershed is quite good. But yes I can't imagine Orchid being lower than Sorceress, aside from the fact that production is bad, to me it does not include any remarkable songs. But of course, again, everyone has different opinions :)
@@bobsala7780Heritage is a banger. I agree that Orchid is my least favorite. I do love that album cover, though.
yeah, I find most grind boring as I get older. I'd put first Carcass on there, Necroticism all day.
You hate total primitive filth you love high quality sound I don’t like that
Katatonia and Opeth
'Dance of December Souls' and 'Orchid' are some of the best albums from Katatonia and Opeth in my opinion. 🤷
I’d much rather listen to Orchid than Sorceress.
@@symphonyxfan Me too.. 🤗
@ if you prefer completely randomly sequenced riffs and comical screechy black metal vocals over actual songwriting, that's fine.
@@arto2533 I find it to be a better release in the context of it being a debut. At face value, yeah Orchid isn’t very good. But Sorceress is the weakest effort of post Watershed, I even prefer Heritage which is also unremarkable. I also think Orchid is a more interesting listen because it’s 1 of only 2 albums of there’s that has black metal elements.
