Oh dearest OP you have, a grave error made!

To hold one 2D-form above another is the gravest of falsities: a Sin that leads to disorder and chaos; a treachery that nests in the heart, and ravages purity; burglars innocence.

I beseech you to remember how the Great Butcher of Uro saw Mankind's growing dishonesty, and took it upon himself to equalise and salvage the ruined landscape of Our Animedom. When he took in his hand the False Idols of Cultish Fans, and struck with cleaving knife! Then did he say to us, "Give not your love unfairly and undeserved to these False Creatures. It is only in the true and fair viewing of 2D, that with the opening of the heart equally, you shall be saved. Only then will the blessed Whyfoo stand at your side. Only then shall the Holy Harems guide you to here into TooDee Evermore."

So, listen to those wisest words, and speak not of a foolish cherishing of mere droplets, when the Ocean of Salvation lies before you.

Blessings unto you, Moe in the dark, and Shading for the light.

That's a tough one...but I'm going to have to go with Rintarou Okabe from Steins;Gate because he's such a unique, original, and well developed character. He's strange and unusual but he also has incredible will and loyalty to the ones he loves. He's eccentric and hilarious. I wouldn't say it's because I relate to him but because I wish I could. He's brilliant and yet so very human. That's why I loved Steins;Gate so much: The characters felt so real and Okabe was, by far in my opinion, why the show is so well loved by many. Also both the Japanese and English voice actors did a phenomenal job bringing his character to life.

Naruto because his struggles are similar to mine and I think he is one of the most down-to-earth and caring characters in anime.

He just wants to proof his self-worth to others and not feel worthless and have people acknowledge him. When he succeeds in his goals, he motivates me to succeed as well, believe in myself and whatever I want to do in life.

My favorite character is none other than Gintoki Sakata from Gintama. He's the most awesome anime character I've ever seen. He's been through harsh times and rather than rebel against the aliens after they took over Edo, Gintoki decides to adapt and does odd jobs for a living. He's laid back, lazy, sarcastic, addicted to sugar and loves reading Shounen Jump. Despite all this, he still sticks to his ideals as a samurai even after their swords were confiscated and will not hesitate to show his more serious side when the time's right (which happens every once in a while). While he may act like he doesn't care about anyone, it's mainly played off for comedic effect as he truly cares a lot about not only his friends, but even complete strangers. Most of the time, he's the "troll king" of anime and he is really freaking hilarious.

Toshiro from Gintama. I have a soft spot for cranky character like these. Sometimes cool, sometimes mad, sometimes badass. Of course de voice actor is nice too (Zoro from one piece). He is often used in the anime and that is for a reason.

This thread is on a death clock

But anyways, Noumi Kudryavka from Little Busters is the cutest character ever made and consequently my waifu. However the actual anime adaptation of LB, and her characterization along with it, was pretty bad so my opinion of her is still only based on her original visual novel self.

Therefore as far as actual anime character performances go, then Momo Velia Deviluke from To LOVE-Ru Darkness because she's the hottest character ever, and also Okabe Rintarou from Steins;Gate for just being the most all-round awesome protag I've ever seen.

Kino for reasons of being cute.

Also for a strong sense of individuality, resourcefulness, practicality, thoughtfulness, strength of mind and will, an open mind which accepts world for all of their ugliness and beauty, and being badass in a very human sense.

But mostly for the cuteness.

Okabe Rintaro from Steins;Gate.

We generally think on the same wavelength and have a mad scientist persona going on. Dr Pepper is also the best drink.
He goes through so much and maintains his character and resolve.

Black★Star from Soul Eater.

1) Hes a lovable idiot
2) He loves combat
3) He strives to become a warrior god
4) He can actually do it
5) He despairs but he gets over it and he, for lack of a better word, EVOLVES
6) Unlike most anime characters, hes willing to kill when necessary
7) Hes a goddamn monster.

Fran!! (from Katekyo Hitman Reborn) He is the most hilarious character that I have ever seen, with his personality and mannerisms and pretty much everything. I'm pretty sure he was the reason why the show got a 6 because I was going to give it a nice little 5, almost 4. I wouldn't say that he is a very good character in terms of characterization in general because he's only a supporting character and he was barely seen in the series but I don't even care:

Can someone explain why this thread might be locked? Fairly new to this, so don't quite understand the technicalities of the guideline...

As for favourite character, there are so many that I love so I'll pick 2 at random:

Hachiken Yuugo from Silver Spoon - he is an excellent protagonist who is both very realistic and relatable yet also inspiring, as he's very flawed but is always aspiring to work hard and improve. His sense of humour, kindness, honesty, and artlessness is also very endearing.

Kou Shuurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari - can't say enough about how brilliant a female lead Shuurei is. The anime (which is very good) would not have been so enjoyable for me had it not been for her. She shares some very similar traits to Hachiken, such as determination and eagerness to learn, and is also very courageous and sensible considering she's living in and trying to climb up in a world ruled by men. She is also a very inspiring character, so that too is something 2 of my favourites share.

Sounds good to me.

Mentors are where it's at. Wily and knowledgeable; spartan and brutal; caring or flippant. Sagaciously guiding young whippersnappers or knocking those ignorant brats down a peg. Ippo's Coach Kamogawa, William Zeppeli, Slam Dunk's Coach Anzai, Bright 'Slap' Noa, Kingdom's Wang Qi, oh, the list goes on, evermore.

The Grisly Veteran captain comes a close second.

I tend to prefer characters that have distinct, human qualities that separate them from simple archetypes or social standards. For example, Balsa from Seirei no Moribito defies gender roles without seeming like she's contrived for the purpose of doing so. She also maintains feminine characteristics such as maternal instincts.

Another example would be The Count from Gankutsuou. Without spoiling anything, his motives and actions blur between black and white, making him a character that isn't driven by good or evil, but by desire and ambition.

Kamijou Touma. I don't care with other people say about him being cliche as fuck, hax power or other biased opinions, but i think he is the real definition of a hero for his strong ideal to save people no matter what the situation, despite being only a normal highschool boy.

Overall? Son Goku from Dragonball. He is my first battle shounen hero and he is everything a battle shounen hero should be: cheery, strong, willpowered and bringer together of an otherwise hostile group. Most of his major allies are reformed villains: Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Piccolo, Vegeta. He doesn't have the angst of some modern shounen heroes.
